The imagine cup 2009 challenges the world’s most talented students to “Imagine a world where technology helps to solve the toughest problems facing us today”. We use technology to help a brother or sister to get an education. Or invent new approaches on medicine using the technology. Or discover new ways to counter the inequalities that exist between genders around the world. These students might ensure the sustainability of our planet or help deliver universal primary education. Yeah, it’s that important.

The United Nations has identified some of the hardest challenges in the world today in its Millennium Goals. This year the Imagine Cup uses these ambitious challenges as a guiding light to inspire change all over the world.

AMD Vs INTEL

AMD is ready to launch the more expected 45-nonometer quad core processor for the servers. This is the AMD’S first processor to use smaller, reliable, faster, and powerful with 45-nm technology instead of older versions of the company that is 65-nm technology. At the same time Intel is planning to launch the latest 45-nm processor for the desktop it is codenamed as Nehalem and it is officially named as CORE i7.

AMD plans to introduce a six-core processor chip called ISTANBUL in the middle of the year 2009 but the Intel’s six-core processor chip called Dunnington is available in few weeks. Mean while AMD is going to launch the 45-nm desktop processor chip codenamed as deneb, is likely to launch in the next year (2009). AMD’S latest 45-nm quad-core processor offers significantly higher CPU clock frequencies with the power consumption of 35 percent than the earlier versions and also the cache memory is increased by 200 percent than the other processors that is 6MB of cache memory which helps to speed up the process of applications like data base management and java applications.

The Intel’s CORE i7 is six times faster than the earlier processor and faster than the current platform of Intel. The first three cores of the CORE i7 processor will be quad-core and have clock speeds of 2.66GHZ, 2.93GHZ and 3.20GHZ respectively. The CORE i7 processor targeted for high level gaming PC’S, high end computing and it is ready for the business users in the next few weeks. AMD is still struggling to catch the TOP position but the Intel will be enjoying fatter margins. On the cost wise comparison the 65-nm technology processor is more expensive than the 45-nm technology ( It is very cheap).

EMOTIONS RECONIZER

Dutch researchers found new software to recognize the human expressions live by using the software program that reads human expressions may bring the details of emotion on the human face.

Unlike other projects, the Dutch software, which works in real time and runs on a standard PC and web-cam the software, is built with commercial applications in mind.

When we smile, frown or grimace, thousands of tiny facial muscles are at work. Emotion-recognition software, or ERS, creates a 3-D face map, pinpointing 12 key trigger areas like eye and mouth corners.

Then a face-tracking algorithm matches the movements to six basic expression patterns, corresponding to anger, sadness, fear, surprise, disgust and happiness, or a mixture of them. By using the above patterns it recognize the emotions of the human and the software is not yet completed fully it is on research to deliver a high quality results without fake answers.

NEXT GENERATION NFC TECHNOLOGY FOR MOBILES

The data transfer between the two mobiles is developed stage by stage from the INFRA RED-for low range data transfer, Bluetooth-for medium range data transfer. Now it is developed as the faster and high range data transfer called as NFC (Near Field Communication) technology.

This feature is available on the mobile phones after five years. The NFC technology facilitates to send/receive the data between two mobiles without having wires by placing the mobiles within 10c.m distance between them. The technology works based on the magnetic field between the mobiles by having antenna embedded on the mobile. The bandwidth of this technology is about 2MHZ. The data transfer rate of this technology at the minimum of 106 Kbps and the maximum of 424 Kbps. The power needed for the magnetic field and for the function of this technology is supplied/utilized from own device battery. In future this technology can be used for the identification purposes in credit cards and smart cards.

UBUNTU FOR MOBILE

UBUNTU MID edition for a new class of computers called mobile and mobile internet devices. It is based on the LINUX platform for the advanced mobile computing and it is easy to use. It is also an open source project gives the full internet security and includes licensed codes and popular third party applications.
